Skiing & Winter Sports

Fifteen teams from around the world began sculpting on Tuesday. These snow artists will be allowed to sculpt almost up until the judging begins around midday Saturday. As you read this, the teams are working away on 12-foot-tall, 20-ton blocks of machine-made snow. No power tools are allowed, but teams have been known to use chisels, saws, chicken wire and even carrot scrapers to shape their creations.

There will be an awards ceremony at 4 p.m. Saturday. The sculptures will remain on display for another week. For more information, call (970) 547-3100.
