Hood River weekend: Windsurfing, skiing, orchard touring—do it all in one day, or three, in this Oregon town - Travelers Recreation - tourism; related information and services

Filed under: Skiing — Administrator @ 1:59 pm

For the question in Hood River isn’t “What is there to do?” but “What shall we do first?” Windsurfing, of course, and its upstart cousin kitesurfing–the reliable wind here draws enthusiasts from all around the world in summer. Then there’s summerlong skiing on Mt. Hood, looming magnificiently south of town. There’s rafting on the White Salmon River to the north. There’s cycling and kayaking. You can, in fact, get in 10 runs on Mt. Hood in the morning and spend the afternoon skimming wavelets and dodging barges on the Columbia.

If you must. To work out the aches and pains after all that, there are also Pilates, Bikram yoga, and aromatherapy classes–whatever it takes to get you realigned.

And of course there are brew pubs, coffee shops, restaurants, and comfortable inns just right for whiling away a few hours. Those would be for the “on vacation” part of the vacation.

‘I loved cross-country skiing my whole life,’ coach says (Pioneer Press)
Who he is: In Cold War-era cross-country skiing, Nikolai Anikin had a lot to do with the rise of the Russians in international competition, first as a competitor and then as a coach. But when the Soviet era ended, Anikin began helping Americans excel in the sport he loves as a coach for juniors, masters and elite athletes based in Duluth.

Finding The Right Realtor®

Filed under: Winter Sports — Administrator @ 12:38 am

In today’s high-speed and high-stakes world or real estate, finding the right Realtor® can be a tricky prospect. There are any number of agents out there who will make claims that they can sell your home faster than any other. What it comes down to is the fact that you as a seller need an agent that will serve your distinct needs, as well as sell your home in a timely manner. Some agents may not be right for some sellers, its a matter of professionalism. An agent’s ability to assess a seller’s needs and then to devise a comprehensive sales plan that is tailor made to the unique aspects of a home is critical. It is this ability that sets a Realtor® apart from the masses and enables them to devise a plan that will not only suit your needss but help your home to sell quickly.

There are some definite things that any seller should be asking of any prospective sales agent before entrusting them with the selling of their home. One of the first good indications of an agent’s ability and dedication is the speed with which they return your initial call. As a seller you will no doubt, want any inquiries about your home handled with all alacrity. In real estate, a few hours can make a huge difference. Next, once you meet a prospective agent ask them about their sales record. Feel free to ask for references. Nothing speaks louder for an agent’s reputation than the testimonials of satisfied customers. Also, don’t be afraid to actually call to check the references they supply. Find out what the customer liked and disliked about the service they received.

I was told the other day and quite a few times that I have a button nose but I have no idea what that means but I think it has something to do with my nose being wide, sloped, and turned-up.
I get told a lot that I have a very upturned nose tip or a “pig snout” or “piggish nose because you can see my nostrils when you look straight at me. I also thing it is wide , ski-slope shaped, pointy and rather large.
Are any of these things true?
Be completely honest, I won’t be offended and my feelings won’t be hurt. Don’t be sorry.

Best Way To Learn A Foreign Language

Filed under: Snowboarding — Administrator @ 12:17 am

I have never quite understood how to learn a foreign language. It is a shame too. Learning a foreign language is pretty necessary in this day and age. If you learn foreign language, it makes you more employable in a variety of areas, as well as enhancing your cultural experience. Say what you want about modern translations, but until you learn foreign languages you never get to experience the beauty of foreign writers. Nevertheless, I have only managed to learn a foreign language once, and it was so difficult for me that I doubt I will ever try it again. It was just too much work!

I managed to get all the way through college without ever successfully completing a learn foreign language program. I took a little bit of French in high school, but I dropped it after a couple of semesters. In general, I was a good student. Most subjects came easy to me, but I couldn’t manage to learn foreign language no matter how hard I tried. I loved French culture and French literature, and I desperately wanted to learn how to speak French, but it just wouldn’t come. I ended up taking an American sign language class to get rid of my learn foreign language requirement. Even that was difficult!

I struggled with learning a foreign language all through college. I went to a liberal arts university that demanded it, and I knew that I could not graduate with the degree that I wanted unless I managed to learn foreign language. I tried using how to speak French software, hiring a private tutor, and working with conversation partners, but nothing worked. I only successfully managed to learn foreign language when I finally went abroad. I spent a year in France, and it was one of the most difficult years of my life. Ultimately, however, it was also one of the most rewarding. I would never have managed to learn foreign language without it, you see.

What To Look For in Camcorder Reviews

Filed under: Winter Sports — Administrator @ 12:08 am

Moving pictures capture an event and tell a story more completely and more dramatically than still pictures. Today’s video camcorders and dvd authoring software are so technologically advanced and easy to use that making interesting and entertaining motion pictures is within reach of almost everybody.

Some digital cameras and camcorders, like the new RCA Small Wonder Point and Shoot, are small enough to stick in a pocket or an evening purse and reliably produce up to 60 minutes of quality video for tv, dvd, and the internet. Size, then, can safely be your first consideration in selecting a video camera without having to give up too much in quality. In the remainder of this article we will discuss the other major camcorder features to look for in camcorder reviews.

The size of the display screen or LCD monitor is an important selection factor. You use the display monitor for composing your video and also as a convenient playback feature. Look for a display monitor of at least 2.5 inches. Most are TFT and display 100% of the captured image but you want to check anyway.

The camcorder lens is probably the most important feature of camcorder comparisons. Top brands like Sony, Canon, and JVC engineer the finest lenses that you can buy with confidence. Small aperture numbers like 1.4 or 1.8 mean that you can shoot successfully in low light. Higher aperture numbers like 4.1 mean better quality in sunlight and other brightly lighted conditions. Camcorder electronics are sophisticated enough to adjust for different lighting conditions by automatically varying the aperture and the shutter speed. 10x optical zoom is fairly standard and you will find it sufficient for most purposes. If you want to shoot very long shots, faces on the other side of a football field for example, then consider a 20x optical zoom but be sure to add a tripod to your camcorder accessory bag.

All camcorders offer one of two types of image stabilization - electronic or optical. Image stabilization is very important for picture quality. The electronic stabilization method counteracts images that seem to float on the CCD by using internal circuitry to interpret video after the image has been captured. Professional quality camcorders use a 3CCD configuration for image stabilization. The optical method uses features within the lens itself to compensate for external movement.

Although it is a digital camera camcorder sound quality is also important. Most camcorders have a mircrophone attached to the camera body, which is the most convenient location for self-recorded interviews. Some camcorders have sockets to attach remote microphones and some high end camcorders have wireless connections for the ultimate flexibility. Stereo sound recording is nice, but an expensive addition unless you really need it.

If you plan on doing lots of night shooting look for an infrared feature or a manual setting for very slow shutter speeds. Look for a lens with an aperture of f1.4 or an even smaller number. Ironically smaller aperture numbers mean bigger lens openings.

Image storage capacity is a major consideration. The storage champion is the hard disk drive or HDD camcorder which could allow you to record a two week vacation without worrying about changing media. Other popular media styles are the dvd camcorder and the high definition minidv camcorder.
